Raï´s path

On this page i´ve been condensing, more or less, the things i have been doing since i started, that way i can organice my ideas and share them with you.

My path with the didgeridoo until now:

-I´m a self-taught person. My first steps were on my own, i use to go to El Retiro (a park in Madrid) to play with other persons that played African instruments (especiallydjembé). I started to play didgeridoo early 2.000. I did a workshop withStephen Voisin

-March 2.000: firtst tribal concert of ethnic music (Djembé, clap sticks, darbuka, mouth harp and didgeridoo)

-April 2.000 (Club La Riviera, Villaviciosa de Odón, Madrid): New season presentation for Coronel Tapioca. Concert done with other ethnic instruments. The Laukamán band gets me to do a little tour of polynesian music, we went to some different spanish cities (Valencia, Sevilla, Madrid). The didgeridoo plays in a solo with the dancers

- The s Heineken Festival "Piensa en Verde" takes on contract to a frind and i to do the presentation of the concerts done in Tenerife. Also didgeridoo solos

-July 2.000 - Presentation on my own of the concert Jazz Heineken "Piensa en verde" at the recently opened Auditorium of Palmas de Gran Canarias and other concerts along the Canary Islands on my own, with other didg players and bands.

Concert at the Autonomous University of Barcelona

-October 2000 ( Biocultura, Madrid):fusing didgeridoo with crystal quartz bowls.

Concert acompanied with electronic music (House) at EiBiSi Club (Granollers). Disc Jockey Eric Entrena.

-November (Centro Mandala, Madrid) I give my first didgeridoo workshop.

Barcelona: Collaboration at the recording of the first demo of the band T.U.M.

Econavarra Fair (Navarre): Concert with Tibetan crystal quartz bowls and stand where my own handcrafted didgeridoos were available. Introduction to the didgeridoo workshop.

-January 2001: Collaboration with Alvaro Espinosa in the theme Wellcome to Space. Recorded at Pedro Vidal´s studio.

- February 2001: Intervention for group meditation with didgeridoo at the workshop gave by Susi calvo "Canalizing your spiritual side"

-April 2001: Didgeridoo weekend workshop in León at the ecoshop Mens Sana

-May 2001: Playing at the fair Biocultura for Stone´s stand ( Austrian company that produces hemp didgeridoos).

- June 2001 (Madrid): Weekend workshop in nature.

I go to the Didjifest (festival organized close to Torino, Italy) where i improve my technique in a workshop done by the known Swiss musician Denra Dürr. At the festival i had the chance to play and exchange information with Australian Aboriginal persons.

I Take part of Valgorgina´s fair with a didgeridoo stand and giving sound massages with the didgeridoo. TvE 2 comes to the festival doing a little intrview and including my didgeridoo music as soundtrack for the whole program.

- July 2001, Arbúcies (Girona): Solo concert at the IX Kafu (African party)

Collaboration with the pop band Gissando at the recording of their first commercialized theme.

- September 2001 Vic : Therapeutic solo concert at the fair Eco- Opció

- October 2001: I started workshops in Ctalonia and Madrid

-November 2001: I publish my first demo on my own "100% didgeridoo"

Once again i take part of Biocultura at Cáñamo´s stand. I also give solo concerts and fusing with ethnic music at Ecotopía´s space

Solo concert at Nou Spiral Girona), some themes had the collaboration of Ibone Cañada(voice) and a group of friends that played percussion

-December 2001: Concert and participation at the exhibition Mas Art de Granollers

-During the year 2002 i´ve been playing at some international didgeridoo festivals: Didjefest (Italy), DreamTime (Berlin), Top Texel (Holland); i also have been improving my technique with some masters as: Matthias Müller, Michael Jackson, Mark Atkins, Lies Beijerinck, Sjack Ebell,....

I organized the first edition of Tribales Festival

-December 2002: i was playing at Antar (Barcelona) and Mandala (Madrid) with Thomas Clements. Gave a concert at Nou Spiral (Girona) togeether with Rodolfo Slachet(Percussion) named DIDGCUSIÓN and played together with the band Shira at some concerts in Barcelona at the Pi church and the last one at Winterthur´s auditorium

-March 2003: Concert together with the band Kassamba (African percussion)

My work

Nowdays i have a full-time commitment with the didgeridoo. I rehearse every day (i spend meny hours with my didgeridoos).I have a simple life but i have to say that i feel quite happy of being able to do what i most like......

Teaching others what i had learnt

To learn to play didgeridoo is not very difficult, but many times you realise that you are playing the same over and over, following the same pattern and feelling stucked, at the beginning also happens that we don´t really know the potential hidden behind a hollow tube......

Currently i´m almost just working with hemp paste didgeriddo, they are giving me very good results and have reasonable prices

Through Tribales website i´m trying to let people know about the didgeridoo, the same is with the Tribales Festival (which is one of the most exciting projects i have right now)

A view on didgeridoo

It is funny the process of didgeridoo: as more you play more you realize that there is a lot to learn. Sometimes you feel completely lost and you don´t know where to go, it´s like being lost in a forest: waking in circles passing by the same spot over and over ...... since something new comes to your life and things go into a new dimension, you assimilate the new information and you feel comfortable again with your way of playing....... since you get lost again

I look at this as a life´s metaphor. Like everything didgeridoo has everything a person needs to grow as a human being. Again our lights and shadows come up from inside. I supose this is what makes each of us different in our way of playing, that we like one thing or another.......to express your inner self outwardly through the didgeridoo.

It looks like that slowly slowly we are getting organized, that we are sharing what we know with the others. I´m happy of this. The Forum is full of persons of different parts of Spain that are organazing activities and that makes me happy. I think this is the pillar to start growing ia all senses: the union

One to one lessons

One hour classes where i get complete dedication to the pupil. There are lessons for all kind of level where i use to work taking the pupil as reference and trying to improve what they have inside.

Is a good way to jump forward in your path as a didgeridoo player.

There are discounts for couples.

Classes can be taken either in Arbúcies or Barcelona.

I´m also available on those places where i go to give weekend workshops..

Price: 25€ per one hour class and pupil, 48€ for two hours
